MENO-MOCKTAILS! ALCOHOL-FREE COCKTAILS RECIPES
Bringing together our last two posts of what to eat and what not to eat during perimenopause and post-menopause, today we’ll be providing a few of our favorite meno-mocktail recipes.
If your habits include a cocktail or a glass of wine with dinner or before bed to unwind, these recipes make great, alcohol-free replacements.
Something refreshing
Cucumber Cooler
This take on a mojito is refreshing, hydrating, and nutrient rich. Blending the ingredients instead of juicing them incorporates fiber into the drink. The mint and cucumber are cooling ingredients, while the citrus in the lime juice may help with hot flushes. We love this mocktail on a hot summer day, or any time we need to cool off and want something fancier than water.
Note: This recipe makes four small glasses or two large glasses.
Ingredients:
1 large cucumber
1 c of coconut water
2 limes juiced
2 tbsp mint leaves
2 tbsp maple syrup
1 c ice
Directions:
Peel and dice cucumber
Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth or desired consistency. (We like the consistency to be comparable to that of a frozen margarita.)
Serve in glass with lime wedge, cucumber, or mint garnish
Something fun and festive
Grapefruit and Lime Spritz
Citrus fruit makes an excellent base for menopause mocktails. Citrus fruit can help reduce the frequency of menopause symptoms, including hot flashes. This mocktail is a great way to incorporate hot flash-busting grapefruit and lime into your diet in a fun and refreshing way. Bonus- this recipe is perfect for the holidays!
Ingredients:
Juice of one grapefruit
Juice of half a lime
¼ c sparkling water
Honey or stevia to taste (optional)
Sprig of rosemary (optional)
Directions:
Gently stir grapefruit juice, lime juice, and sparkling water in a glass
Add sweetener if using
Add ice
Garnish with a sprig of rosemary and lime wedge if using
To help with sleep
Tart Cherry Nightcap
Tart cherry juice is a menopause all star. Not only is it low in sugar and high in anti-inflammatory antioxidants, it is a natural source of melatonin, which can aid in sleep. This mocktail is a great way to incorporate tart cherry juice into your evening routine.
Ingredients:
½ c Tart Cherry Juice
2 Tbsp lime juice
1 tsp honey or two drops of liquid stevia (optional)
Sparkling water to taste (add more if you want a less tart drink)
Lime for garnish
Directions:
In a medium glass mix all ingredients, stirring gently with a spoon or long straw
Add lime wedge or peel to garnish
